3 days in hospital.

After the IUI procedure, I had been feverish and unwell. The nurses from KKIVF centre assured it was quite normal. So I thought of it as nothing and carried on my daily routine. Realising the fever gotten higher and higher each day, and the daily inserts causing sytoms of bloatedness and diarrhea. Called KKIVF for advise, still was assured it was normal, and if I felt uncomfort then should take 2 panadol.

I started monitoring my temperature on my own. At first, it was 37.7, then 37.4, then 38, then 39 degree. The diarrhea increases to 8 times a day. I began to take Panadol Extra and Charcoal pills... which had no reaction to the fever and diarrhea.

Something is not right... it had cause me giddyness and weak. (Hubby wanted me to do the houseworks and were too weak to do any.)

So on Friday, 31 Aug, I wanted to see doctor at the Marine Parade polyclinic. Hubby went with me around 7.30 am, thinking after that we can have breakfast together before he left for work.

After examined my tummy, I was in tears!!! The female doctor had pressed so hard and I felt terrible pain. My womb was already in pain just after the IUI for the past few days. She said my tummy was very tense and the fever was too high (39.1) for any pills to take effect. Need to be warded immediately - to Singapore General Hospital (SGH). We asked whether can go KK Hospital since I had just done my IUI there. She advised SGH, because they are better for medical knowledge, whereas KK specialised only with women. Agreed, so we gotten a referral letter to SGH.

Thinking should inform KKIVF, so I called. The nurse insisted I go KK 24 hrs Women clinic to check first, as I had just done IUI. Saying if KK can't handle, "they" would let me go to SGH. Saying should let my IUI dr know what's happening to my body reacting to IUI. Hmm... agreed to that too.

Hubby suggested had some breakfast before going to the hospital so I had a piece of Mac Hotcake, passed to him the other 2 pieces. He had to call office to go in late.

After examined by the KK 24 hrs clnic dr, I was warded around 11.45 am with a 39.7 fever. This was my first time warded in hospital.

The first day was "Nil by Mouth", meaning no food and no water. I was put on drip. 2 physio thrapist came, giving me a pair of "compression socks" to wear at all time to prevent any blood clot on my legs. Around 5 pm my hunger runs in. Hubby and my sister took urgent leave to keep me company. I pleaded badly to my sis to buy me some food so that if the dr decided I could eat then I'll have some to eat on the spot. When she and mummy went for dinner, they came back with MacNugget (big smile)! (The rest of the food stalls were closed.)

Urine output should be recorded to tally with the volume of drip. They were afraid I might be suffering from either Dengue Fever or OHSS, a complication when IUI or IVF went wrong.

Doctor didn't appear until the next morning, and was not my IUI dr. Although my fever had gone down, she was surprised that I didn't pass much urine after 4 bags of drip from last night. I had to let the nurse record all "urine output" with the measuring container. She asked me whether I want to go home... bewildered, I asked "can I?" (Of course I want to go home if I am well to do so.) But later she realised I had not been eating, she suggested to observe 1 more day with food intake, whether my diarrhea was better.

Agreed to that... as long as I can EAT! After she left, I grabbed a nugget and ate secretly. Hiding from my right neighbour, pitied that she was out of operation yesterday and was in terrible hunger too and put on drip.

Then sixth uncle family came visit and later in the afternoon, hubby and kak came.

As there were warnings from nurses, if I didn't pass urine, I would be back on drip! I was munching whole day! Then dr's instruction to drink more water to pass urine. At first after drinking about 500 ml, only 200 ml output. Slowly throughout the day, the volume increased especially after 5 pm.

At night after dinner, hubby suggested we go for a walk, with permission from the nurse. We went to the foodcourt, then prayed Ishak at the staircase.

Later in the night, my left room mate couldn't sleep and was a bit disturbing. I talked to her if she need help. She was in pain with the blood transfusion on her right arm and not used to the strange environment. She talked a lot so I can't sleep. I suggested some ideas for her to relax her mind to get some sleep, as the nurse would be in out every 2 hrs to take blood pressure and temperature. While talking, the nurse came in for the routine checkup.

Which I managed to sneak back to sleep till Suboh.

Breakfast serving at 7.30 am. The other room mates were curious with my Muslim menu. They were mouth-watery with my bee hoon soto, heeheeheee! Then we started chatting and joking, it was fun.

Cindy at my opposite bed, said her sister was curious what I was suffering from, as she saw me last night carrying a small bag "sending my hubby off" and looked so lively, didn't seem to be sick at all. Heeheee... that was the time we went for a walk and to pray. All my room mates thought I was discharging last night and wondered why discharged late at night and all. We were laughing together. Cindy then suggested we exchange contact numbers.

After doctor's routine check, Cindy and I were to discharge on that day. After informing hubby and family, I went back to sleep till hubby came to bring me back. Lunch was beef rendang, califlower and rice. Again, my room mates were all jealous with my delicious lunch, heeheeheeeheeeeeheee!!
